X, formerly Twitter, has announced that September 11, 2026 will mark the final payout under its Revenue Sharing programme as the platform transitions to a new creator monetisation system known as Original Content Rewards.
The company said the move represents the end of its advertising revenue-sharing model, which has rewarded eligible creators based on engagement with ads displayed in replies to their postsAccording to X, creators who qualify under the outgoing programme will receive their final Revenue Sharing payment on September 11, bringing the scheme to a close after several years of operation.
The replacement programme, Original Content Rewards, is scheduled to begin issuing its first payouts on September 25 to approved creators who meet the platform’s eligibility requirements.
Unlike the previous model, Original Content Rewards is designed to place greater emphasis on the quality and originality of content rather than revenue generated from advertisements in reply threads.
X has been gradually reshaping its creator economy since introducing monetisation tools following Elon Musk’s acquisition of the platform. The company has expanded subscription features, long-form content, creator payments and advertising incentives as part of its effort to attract and retain content creators.
Creators already enrolled in the new programme are expected to receive payments beginning September 25, while those yet to qualify may need to complete the platform’s approval process before becoming eligible for future rewards.
The transition marks one of the most significant changes to X’s monetisation strategy, signalling a broader shift towards rewarding original content as the platform continues to evolve its creator payment system.
