You must no longer bow to any other king, Alaafin tells Mayegun of Yorubaland

The Asiwaju Olubadan, Chief Akinade Fijabi has described Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi as the only intelligent and sound minded king in Yorubaland. He said those other intelligent kings like him were already dead.

In a 5 minute video released by AfriNEWS, an online media outfit, Akinade Fijabi, the Asiwaju Olubadan who was alongside the Osolo of Isolo in Lagos State, Oba Kabiru Agbabiaka recently accompanied the ace Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde K1 made this assertion at the palace during a thank you visit to the palace of the great Oyo monarch thanking him for appointing him as the first Mayegun of Yorubaland.

“Kabiyesi, may you live long. I love you so much and I always admire you because you are the only Yoruba king with sound mind as all other intelligent kings like you have all died,” Fijabi said.

Accepting the Alaafin’s overlordship on Ibadan, Chief Akinade Fijabi admitted that the Oyo monarch indisputably remains the authentic owner of Ibadanland with sole power and right to confer Yorubaland chieftaincy tittle on anybody, saying all the Yoruba kings without exceptions are under Alaafin.

“Thank you for making my friend, Wasiu Ayinde the Mayegun of Yorubaland. Who else should we be calling a king like you? You Alaafin remain the only king that we know, all the other kings are under you.

“Alaafin is even the overlord king over Ibadan. If not for western civilization, the Baale of Ibadan would still be answerable to the authority of Alaafin. My own father was once the Baale of Ibadan and as matter of fact, my father was the first indigene to be installed as Baale of Ibadan. So, it is something I understand very well. Alaafin is our overlord,” Chief Fijabi admitted.

An aide of the Alaafin who anchored the program had earlier in his opening speech sounded a note of warning to Wasiu Ayinde Marshal to henceforth stop prostrating or bowing in greetings to any other king again, he reminded the Fuji star of his new status as the Mayegun of Yorubaland which is an equal status with the kings.

“There is no king like Alaafin in Yorubaland. He (Baba Alaafin) has asked me to tell him (Wasiu Ayinde) that it is the king of kings that wants to install him as a chief. So, no one made a chief here in Oyo of Alaafin is allowed to take chieftaincy title from any other town or king again.

“Baba said with your new chieftaincy position, you have now become a contemporary to the other kings without exception and you must never prostrate or bow to greet any of them from now on,” he said.

The obviously rattled Osolo of Isolo, Oba Kabiru Agbabiaka could only speak for a few minutes thanking Alaafin for bestowing the honorary chieftaincy tittle on his friend.

In his own very brief speech too, Wasiu Ayinde, also accompanied by his son, El Amin Anifowose and daughter, Fatimat Anifiwose from America expressed his profound gratitude for the honour bestowed on him by the Alaafin.

K1, as fondly called, told the Oyo monarch that he had before coming to Oyo gone to his own father, the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona to brief him on the development so as to get his blessings.

As a new chief made by the Oyomesi, Wasiu Ayinde pledged to construction a school of conflict resolution to be located in Oyo Town as a mark of his appreciation.

AfriNEWS reporter’s efforts to get reactions from the Ooni and Olubadan palaces proved abortive.

The Ooni’s Director of Media, Moses Olafare refused to talk on phone, the Olubadan’s spokesman, Adeola Oloko could not be reached as his phone was switched off.
