Zookeeper killed by tiger at the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo in a tragic accident Friday, zoo officials confirmed.

The 26-year-old keeper was fatally mauled while preparing the tiger’s enclosure ahead of a private tour.
According to the zoo, the tiger inexplicably broke free from its holding cage and entered a secure area where the keeper was working.
The young man suffered severe injuries and died shortly after being transported to a hospital.
Officials stressed that visitors were never in any danger during the incident.
The zoo closed immediately following the attack and announced it would remain shut until Sunday to allow for investigations and internal review.
Founded in 1928, the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo houses animals mentioned in the Bible, such as lions, bears, and leopards, as well as modern conservation species like tigers and giraffes.

Zoo management extended condolences to the family and pledged to uncover how the breach occurred, calling the event an unimaginable tragedy.
