Zulum warns terror aiders in Borno, vowing decisive action as insecurity resurges and military operations intensify

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has issued a stern warning to individuals aiding insurgents, declaring that those providing shelter, intelligence or logistical support to terrorists will be treated as enemies of the state and brought to justice.

In a statewide broadcast on Thursday, Babagana Zulum said the government would intensify efforts to identify and prosecute collaborators, stressing that their actions undermine the fragile peace achieved in recent years.

The governor described the recent resurgence of attacks in parts of the state as deeply concerning, despite sustained progress made over the past seven years through coordinated security operations.

He attributed the spike in violence to intensified military offensives, noting that insurgents dislodged from their strongholds are attempting to infiltrate civilian communities.

According to Babagana Zulum, the security situation remains under control, with a robust and coordinated response already underway to counter emerging threats.

He warned that anyone found aiding insurgents would face decisive consequences, insisting that such individuals are complicit in destabilising the state.

The governor also called on residents to strengthen collaboration with security agencies, emphasising that community support is critical in intelligence gathering and early threat detection.

Babagana Zulum expressed sympathy to families of security personnel and civilians affected by recent attacks, acknowledging their sacrifices and resilience in the face of ongoing challenges.

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing financial support to military operations, describing it as vital to sustaining the fight against insurgency.

The governor also appreciated Vice President Kashim Shettima for his support, alongside the efforts of the Nigerian Armed Forces, police, and other security agencies.

Babagana Zulum urged political leaders and residents to remain united, warning against attempts to exploit the security situation for political gain as the state approaches a new political cycle.

The renewed warning follows recent coordinated attacks in Maiduguri that resulted in multiple casualties, underscoring the persistent threat posed by insurgent groups despite ongoing military pressure.

The development highlights the fragile balance between security gains and emerging threats in Nigeria’s North-East, as authorities push to consolidate peace while confronting evolving tactics by armed groups.
