The president of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has named the Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District in the Red Chamber, His Excellency Otunba Engr. Gbenga Daniel, as the chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy and Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Identity and Population.

The Senate President announced the appointment on the floor of the senate on Monday, August 7, 2023, during the plenary session.
The former governor of Ogun State has been an active and vocal legislator since he was inaugurated as a member of the National Assembly.
OGD has actively participated in grassroots development through his unwavering support for motions that will improve the lives of Nigerians.
He has also sponsored the Southwest Development Commission bill, which has passed its first reading. The bill seeks to establish a commission charged with the responsibility of receiving and managing funds from the federal government, among other things.
His notable achievements as a legislator also include direct intervention in the Ogun East Senatorial District, providing no-interest business loans to over 800 businesses across the district.
