Today, Covenant University in Otta hosted a significant public lecture, marking the International Day of Reflection on the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsis in Rwanda.

Among the distinguished guests was the Olofin Apesin Olode, Olota of Ottaland, Awori Kingdom, His Majesty, Oba Professor Adeyemi Abdukabir Obalanlege Ph.D, MCIPR, MPRII, FHEA (Lanlege Ekun II, Arole Iganmode), who joined global stakeholders to reflect on the 30th anniversary of the genocide and advocate for lasting global peace.

In a release made available to Freelanews and signed on behalf of the palace by Prince Adeyemi Sulaimon Olusesi, His Majesty praised the organizers for their thoughtful initiative, emphasizing the importance of such reflection amidst ongoing global tensions. He also lauded Bishop (Dr.) David Oyedepo, Chancellor of Covenant University, for his continuous efforts in nurturing exceptional leadership.

Keynote speaker Professor Ibrahim Gambari, former Under-Secretary General and Special Adviser on Africa at the United Nations Secretariat in New York, and Chief of Staff to Nigeria’s former President Muhammadu Buhari, provided valuable insights into the events of the genocide period, highlighting leadership failures that exacerbated the crisis.

The event also welcomed H.E Amb. Christophe Bazivamo, Rwandan High Commissioner in Nigeria, and Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, Vice Chancellor of Covenant University, among other distinguished guests.
