Rhodes-Vivour replies Gbenga Omotoso's accusations with Femi Kuti's 'Dem Bobo' refrain

The ongoing political saga between the former gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, and the Lagos Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, has taken a musical twist.

Rhodes-Vivour responded to accusations of spreading false information with a refrain from Femi Kuti’s legendary Afrobeat anthem ‘Dem Bobo,’ infusing a touch of cultural flair into the heated exchange.

Playing the iconic song, Rhodes-Vivour used the refrain to express his strong rebuttal to Omotoso’s accusations.

The phrase ‘Dem Bobo,’ a local slang for deceit, resonated through the response, suggesting that he perceived the allegations as an attempt to mislead the public.

Dem bobo your mama!
(Dem bobo) Bobo your papa!
(Dem bobo) Bobo your mama!
(Dem bobo) Bobo your papa!
(Dem bobo) Bobo your grandmama!
(Dem bobo) Bobo your grandpapa!
(Dem bobo) Bobo the market women!
(Dem bobo) Bobo you journalist!
(Dem bobo) The human right activists!
(Dem bobo) In the name of democracy!

The verbal exchange began when Omotoso accused Rhodes-Vivour of making baseless allegations on a post dated November 19, 2023.

The post claimed that the Lagos State Government funded Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s legal dispute after the March 18, 2023 election. Omotoso refuted these claims, highlighting that the supporting document lacked official endorsement and was a deceptive ploy.

In response, Rhodes-Vivour stood by his allegations, insisting that financial scrutiny of the Lagos State Government is a patriotic duty. He emphasized the importance of basing any inquiry on verified facts and the truth.

According to Rhodes-Vivour, the referenced transaction never took place, acknowledging a payment request that was not approved by Governor Sanwo-Olu due to its irregularity.

Omotoso’s accusations were punctuated with a strong statement from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, asserting that he would never misappropriate public funds in defiance of his Oath of Office. This served as a definitive response to the claims made by Rhodes-Vivour.
