Speaking at the launch held at the Federal Secretariat, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Kwarra highlighted the significance of the five-month exercise, noting its primary goal of collecting demographic data to enhance the health and nutritional well-being of the populace, with a focus on individuals aged 15 to 49.

The NPC Chairman, represented by Mr. Folami Muka, the acting state Director of the NPC, outlined the methodology, stating, “In Ogun State, 46 clusters, cutting across 18 local government areas, have been selected using random sampling techniques. In each of the clusters, 45 households will be interviewed, covering topics such as fertility awareness, planning methods, child immunization routine, maternal and child health, awareness regarding HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and disability, among other health-related issues.”

The objectives of the 2023/2024 NDHS include gathering high-quality data on vital indicators like fertility rates, maternal and child health, contraceptive use, childhood mortality, and gender-related matters. This data will be analyzed to develop strategies that address social poverty and align with national development goals.

Kwarra urged the cooperation of residents during the interviews, emphasizing the tangible impact of the collected data. He stated, “The data we collect, analyze, and utilize are not mere statistics; they represent the health, aspirations, and challenges of our people. Let this launch be a clarion call for us all to come together and embrace the opportunities that lie ahead.”

The NDHS is expected to play a crucial role in shaping policies, interventions, and programs aimed at improving the overall health and well-being of Nigerians, particularly in Ogun State.
