In a recent global ranking by Time Out, the renowned travel guide and magazine publisher, Lagos has secured the 19th position among the best cities to visit in the world. This accolade positions Lagos as a vibrant and attractive destination, drawing attention to its diverse offerings.

Time Out’s assessment was based on a comprehensive survey involving more than 20,000 city dwellers worldwide, coupled with insights from its network of editors. The criteria for evaluation encompassed various factors such as food quality and affordability, cultural richness, nightlife, overall atmosphere, community spirit, access to green spaces, historic significance, and more.

Lagos is joined by two other African cities in this global ranking—Cape Town in South Africa, securing the second position, and Accra in Ghana, ranked 44th.

The report encourages global citizens to explore Lagos, describing it as a city with something for everyone. Whether in the bustling mainland or the upscale Lekki, Lagos offers a broad spectrum of experiences. The expansion of both the city and its suburbs, exemplified by Eko Atlantic City’s live-work-play concept, adds to the city’s appeal. Epe, situated north of Lekki Lagoon, is also experiencing notable development.

When it comes to the quality of life, Lagos stands out, with high ratings for happiness (96%), beauty (98%), and friendliness (92%). Notable highlights mentioned in the report include Victoria Island’s upscale resorts, diverse culinary offerings, and vibrant nightlife. Additionally, Ikeja’s Kuti’s Bistro, owned by the legendary Afrobeat family, is recognized for serving reliably delicious food, while Oniru Beach is spotlighted as a relaxation hotspot.

This positive recognition contrasts with a 2023 report by the Economist Intelligence Unit, which ranked Lagos as the fourth-worst city to live in globally. However, Time Out’s acknowledgment showcases the city’s dynamic and diverse character, emphasizing its potential as an appealing destination on the global stage.
