The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed three of its officers over allegations of armed robbery and extortion.

The Commissioner of Police for the state, Abiodun Alamutu, disclosed this during a press briefing held at the state headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

The dismissed officers, identified as Inspector Taiwo Kolawole and Inspector John Ogbe, both attached to the Ijebu-Ife division, and Corporal Idowu Sunday, who served in Ijebu-Ife, were paraded alongside 27 other individuals suspected of various criminal activities, including kidnapping, armed robbery, and cultism.

The actions leading to their dismissal were prompted by a report filed by Kashimao Emmanuel, a student of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode. Emmanuel reported an incident involving a gang of armed men, one of whom was wearing a police round-neck camouflage, demanding his phone and subsequently robbing him.

Commissioner Alamutu narrated that during the investigation, two additional complainants surfaced, recounting similar encounters with the suspects in separate incidents.

“In the process, one of them fired a shot into the air, and that was when he complied. They entered into his car and took him away towards Sagamu expressway, on getting to Ososa, they made a u-turn to Ijebu-ode, where a sum of N312,000 was forcefully transferred from his account to an Opay account,” Alamutu explained.

The police officers underwent an internal disciplinary process and were subsequently dismissed. Commissioner Alamutu assured the public that the former officers would be charged in court, emphasizing the commitment to maintaining the integrity and professionalism of the police force.
