Police arraign Bonse in connection with Patricia financial security breach

The Nigeria Police National CyberCrime Centre has arraigned Wilfred Bonse before the Federal High Court Abuja, following a thorough investigation into a security breach at the fintech company, Patricia.

Recall that the breach led to several investors losing a significant amount of funds.

According to a statement sighted by Freelanews and shared by the Force Public Relations Officer, Prince Muyiwa Adejobi, the suspect, residing at Flat 6, Block 9, Aso Garden Estate, Karsana, Abuja, stands accused of participating in a case involving conspiracy to commit computer-related fraud, money laundering, and other offenses amounting to 50 million naira.

The charges are in contravention of Section 14(1) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, ETC) Act, 2015, Sections 20(a)(b) & 21(a) of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

Prince Adejobi stated that the arraignment marks a significant stride in the pursuit of justice regarding the Patricia security breach.

“It underscores the relentless efforts of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre in combating cyber and cyber-enabled crime as well as financial fraud within the country and beyond.”

The Federal High Court has ruled that the suspect be remanded in a correctional facility until the next hearing date.

The Force PRO added that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun has reiterated the Force’s unwavering commitment to upholding the law and ensuring justice for all and has directed the Force National Cybercrime Center, under the leadership of CP Uche Ifeanyi Henry, to maintain trailblazing trends in alignment with global best practices in combating Cyber and cyber-enabled crime in its dynamics.
