A Borno State High Court sitting in Maiduguri has sentenced a 37-year-old woman, Fatima Sanda, to two years’ imprisonment for procuring a 16-year-old girl for sexual exploitation.

The conviction was secured by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), which disclosed the development in a statement published on its official Facebook page.

The court, presided over by Justice Aisha M. Ndume at Court 10, also ordered Sanda to pay ₦500,000 in compensation to the victim.

According to NAPTIP, the offence contravened Section 16(1) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015, as amended.

The agency said the conviction formed part of ongoing efforts to prosecute offences involving human trafficking and the sexual exploitation of vulnerable persons.

In its statement, NAPTIP confirmed that Sanda was found guilty of procuring the teenage girl and subjecting her to sexual exploitation by other persons.

The court subsequently imposed a two-year prison sentence and directed the convict to pay ₦500,000 to the victim as compensation.

The agency did not provide further details about the circumstances surrounding the offence in the statement cited in the report.

Sanda’s conviction comes about a month after a Niger State High Court sitting in Minna sentenced a 27-year-old man, Hussaini Suleiman, to seven years’ imprisonment for assaulting an eight-year-old girl.

According to NAPTIP, the offence occurred at the convict’s residence behind the Prison Quarters in Minna.

The agency said Suleiman pleaded guilty to the offence.

NAPTIP explained that the case was referred to its Niger State Command by the state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps on April 16, 2026, following a report concerning the assault of the minor.

The convict was subsequently arraigned before Court 8 of the Niger State High Court in Minna on September 10, 2026.

The two cases highlight ongoing legal action against offences involving the sexual exploitation and abuse of minors in Nigeria.

NAPTIP is responsible for enforcing laws against human trafficking and related offences, including the exploitation of vulnerable people.

The agency’s disclosure of the convictions also underscores the role of law enforcement agencies and the courts in pursuing reported cases and securing legal remedies for victims.
