Youths in Suleja, Niger State, went to the streets on Wednesday, February 7, in a passionate demonstration of their dissatisfaction over the excessive prices of basic food products.

The demonstration, which is representative of previous unrest in the area, highlights the mounting dissatisfaction among Nigerians who are suffering from the devastating consequences of inflation.

Witness reports describe passionate protesters voicing their complaints against President Bola Tinubu’s administration at a rally against the current economic problems. To combat the crippling inflation that has severely reduced their purchasing power, the demonstrators angrily called for immediate action.

According to reports, the protest started in the Suleja local government district, when protesters expressed their displeasure with the ongoing increase in food prices. The disturbance was in line with a more general dissatisfaction that people felt, which was a reflection of the tangible pressure brought on by the current state of the economy.

In addition, a similar wave of protest was witnessed on Monday, February 5, in Minna, the capital of Niger State, where men, women, and young people came together to express their displeasure with the growing inflationary pressures. The collective scream reflected the feelings conveyed in Suleja and brought attention to the widespread worry over the declining affordability of basic needs.

The protesters in both Suleja and Minna implored the government to implement decisive measures aimed at curbing the rampant inflationary trends, which have rendered livelihoods increasingly precarious. Their appeals underscored the urgency of addressing the systemic economic challenges that have exacerbated the vulnerability of ordinary citizens to the perils of inflation.
