As Nigeria enters another crossroads of our democratic process, led by a party that has brought nothing but suffering to the people, it is high time we did things differently. It is time to hand over to the younger generation of professionals and successful businessmen who have traversed the murky paths of politics and governance but have emerged as excellent examples of leadership and service to the people.

In the realm of contemporary Nigerian politics, one figure stands out as a beacon of hope and progress: His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State. With a unique leadership style deeply rooted in people-centric policies and unwavering dedication to societal advancement, progress, and non-selective development, Governor Makinde embodies the qualities of an exemplary leader fit to helm the nation.

There are many reasons why those who have studied the phenomenal Seyi Makinde are seriously calling on him to run for President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, having given eight years of sterling leadership to his state, Oyo, as the best governor yet:

  1. People-Centric Leadership: Governor Makinde’s leadership philosophy revolves around prioritizing the welfare and aspirations of the people. From day one, he has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to putting the needs of citizens first. His policies, ranging from healthcare to education, security, agriculture, transportation, development, and progress, reflect a keen understanding of the challenges facing ordinary Nigerians, and his actions consistently aim to uplift the marginalized and vulnerable segments of society. I will continue to mention Makinde’s exceptional performance during the COVID-19 pandemic. As an opposition state, he went at it alone, faced the virus like a general at war, and Oyo recorded very few casualties. Makinde himself, who was on the frontline, caught the virus but beat it to the Glory of God. That is the kind of man we want to rule Nigeria, not those who are hypocritical in all they do and say.
  2. Economic Empowerment: Under Governor Makinde’s stewardship, the economy of Oyo State has experienced significant growth and stability. His administration’s prudent fiscal management and strategic investments have propelled the state toward prosperity. By injecting funds into the economy, ensuring prompt payment of salaries, and creating employment opportunities, Makinde has fostered an environment conducive to sustainable economic development.

Oyo has received massive investments in different sectors, Agriculture is at an all-time high with the state aiming at self-sufficiency in food production and consumption.

The Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) has reached an unprecedented peak, and Ibadan has completely transformed into a true world-class metropolitan city.

  1. Inclusive Governance: Makinde’s inclusive approach to governance is commendable. He has actively engaged with diverse stakeholders, traditional rulers, women, youths, including people with disabilities, to ensure that their voices are heard and their needs addressed. Initiatives aimed at improving accessibility, healthcare, and educational opportunities for marginalized groups underscore his commitment to building a more inclusive society where everyone has an equal chance to thrive.
  2. Infrastructure Development: The transformation of Oyo State’s infrastructure under Governor Makinde’s leadership is nothing short of remarkable. From road construction to the building and renovation of healthcare facilities, his administration has prioritized infrastructural development, thereby enhancing the quality of life for residents and fostering economic growth. The overhaul of transportation systems, providing modern air-conditioned buses even before the current and controversial removal of subsidy mayhem, and the revitalization of public institutions stand as testaments to his vision for a modern and progressive Oyo State, which will be transferred to Nigeria if he runs for president.
  3. Security and Stability: In the face of security challenges, Governor Makinde has exhibited exemplary leadership by championing initiatives aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens. His proactive approach to security, including the establishment and support of the Amotekun security outfit, has contributed to the maintenance of peace and stability in Oyo State. We must remember that it takes a man with the heart of a lion to rule Nigeria. We must also remember that when other governors were foot-dragging on the formation of Amotekun, Makinde came out like a General to lead his people. He not only championed the cause but also funded and launched it.

Not to be left out is his continuous collaboration and immense support for the Nigerian Police in Oyo State, recognizing that the police have the onerous duty of protecting citizens.

  1. Crisis Management: It is common knowledge that before Makinde’s emergence, Oyo State was a hot hub for all kinds of violence and anarchy.

Makinde meandered that terrain with wisdom, diplomacy, and sternness where need be; such that Oyo is calm and peaceful today. He approached dissidence with the rule of law and quelled any uprising by nipping it in the bud. On security, we can safely say, that Makinde scored an A+. Imagine if he were to bring such experience to the national sphere as president; I assure you that the Egyptians you see today, you shall see no more, as the saying goes.

  1. Party Loyalty and Ideals: Governor Makinde’s alignment with the principles and ideologies of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) testify to his commitment to progressive values and inclusive governance. His unwavering support for the party and its agenda reflects a deep-seated belief in the transformative power of collective action and political cohesion. As leader of the PDP South West Zone, he fostered unity. The party, which was heavily polarized before his emergence, is now a united party speaking with one voice.

Conclusion:

They say the hue of the morning fog determines how the day will look like. His Excellency, Engr. Seyi has proved beyond reasonable doubt that he will do better than those who have seized power through the ballot since 2015, putting the whole country through unbelievable hardship. There is a need for a change of baton. If you have no clue, please make way for a man who has shown beyond any reasonable doubt that he has and he is in tune with modern developmental templates.

Undoubtedly, Engr. Seyi Makinde’s exemplary track record as Governor of Oyo State speaks volumes about his leadership prowess and vision for a better Nigeria. His dedication to the people, progressive policies, and transformative initiatives position him as a formidable candidate for the presidency of our great nation, Nigeria. As Nigeria navigates the complexities of governance and seeks a path towards sustainable development, Makinde stands out as a leader with the vision, integrity, and capability to lead the nation to greater heights, and we hereby call on His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde to run for President.
