In compliance with Lagos State law on People with Special Needs, specifically Part C, section 55 of General Provisions on Discrimination, which prohibits depriving individuals of access based on disability, the management of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has taken decisive action by closing the KFC facility at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, effective March 28, 2024.

This decision follows a social media report by a Passenger with Reduced Mobility (PRM), alleging discriminatory treatment at MMIA, Lagos.

In a release made available to the Freelanews, Olubunmi Kuku, the MD/CEO of FAAN, promptly intervened by deploying a management team, including Mrs. Obiageli Orah, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection; Mr. Sunday Ayodele, Regional Manager South West; Mrs. Kjeoma Nwosu-Igbo, Ag. General Manager Public Affairs; and Mr. Kerri, International Terminal Manager, to investigate the incident.

Based on the team’s findings, FAAN has closed the KFC facility at MMIA, where the incident occurred.

The Authority has directed the KFC Management to issue a written, unreserved apology to the affected PRM and to visibly display a policy statement of non-discrimination at the entrance of their MMIA facility before resuming operations.

FAAN extends sincere apologies to the affected Passenger with Reduced Mobility and reassures all airport users of its unwavering commitment to ensuring that the rights of every passenger are respected and upheld.

Debola Daniel, an individual with a disability who relies on a wheelchair, was unjustly denied access to the lounge area of the KFC establishment located within the departure hall of Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

This should teach them a very good lesson not to discriminate.
