Former Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo recently underscored the significance of churches scrutinizing the origins of donations they receive, emphasizing the importance of upholding ethical standards, particularly among Christians in public service.

Speaking at the inaugural lecture honoring the late Pastor Taiwo Odukoya of Fountain Life Church on June 15, Osinbajo delivered a lecture titled “Strengthening the Christian voice in government or public office.” He highlighted the need for churches to uphold integrity and promote moral values in society.

Osinbajo raised pertinent questions about financial contributions received by churches, especially from politicians and other sources. He emphasized that the focus should not merely be on the number of Christians in government or other sectors, but on the principles and values they embody and practice.

“How often do those who receive money from politicians and other sources ask the source of the money?” Osinbajo posed to the audience, challenging them to consider the ethical implications of financial support.

He continued by urging Christians in public roles to be equipped with and apply the principles of the gospel in their daily professional and public lives. Osinbajo’s lecture aimed to encourage a deeper reflection on the responsibilities and moral obligations of Christians in influential positions within society.
