Heavy rainfall lasting several hours in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State, has left many people homeless as numerous houses reportedly collapsed.
Flooding in the Genge Maigemu area of Tudun Wada made it impossible for people and vehicles to pass through.
Residents were seen removing their belongings from their homes as the rain destroyed valuable items. Mama Bilikisu, a local resident, shared her experience, saying, “We couldn’t sleep as the rain started very early, and we were busy packing some of the things we could save.”
Salisu Ibrahim, another victim, lamented that the rain destroyed his house and property. He now faces the challenge of repairing his home and replacing his belongings despite economic hardship.
Some locals attributed the destruction to negligence, noting that many residents did not follow government building regulations. “Most of the houses were constructed on waterways, which causes problems and damages during the rainy season,” said Musa, an engineer.
Efforts to reach local government authorities for comments on the issue were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
