Police arrest two Chinese for illegal mining in Zamfara 600x323 1

Two Chinese nationals allegedly linked to illegal mining in spite of the federal government’s order, during their arrest by the Zamfara Police Command, in Gusau yesterday

Zamfara State Police Command has arrested two Chinese for illegal mining, the spokesman of the command, SP Muhammad Shehu, has said.

Last year, the Federal Government banned all mining activities in Zamfara State as part of measures to tame the tide of armed banditry and cattle rustling plaguing the state.

Shehu said the command had earlier received information that some foreigners in concert with other unpatriotic Nigerians engaged in illegal mining activities in Kwali, Bukkuyum LGA of the state.

“On the strength of the information, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Usman Nagogo, led a special taskforce team to Kwali mining sites to assess and see things for himself.

“The information proved to be credible one as hundreds of miners scattered as soon as they saw the team. Two labourers were however arrested who confirmed the presence of Chinese and Burkinabe among others”

“The two Chinese identified as Mr Wang and Mr. Chun are being interrogated to get more information that could help the course of the investigation,” he added.
