Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, known as Sunday Igboho, has condemned the nationwide protests scheduled for August 1 to 10 over the country’s economic hardship.

In a statement released on July 29, Igboho addressed the planned protests by anonymous individuals aiming to destabilize the country.

He highlighted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts since taking office on May 29, 2023, implementing bold policies that previous leaders avoided. Igboho emphasized that these policies have unsettled those who feel entitled to rule Nigeria, leading to attempts to undermine Tinubu’s administration, particularly on social media.

Igboho noted the emergence of notices from unknown individuals threatening “10 days of rage” under the slogan “Tinubu Must Go!” He stressed that while peaceful protests are constitutional, calls for an unconstitutional regime change are not. Igboho recalled that during President Buhari’s tenure, no such regime change protests occurred in the Southwest, even amid significant oppression and atrocities.

Igboho declared that the Yoruba Nation Movement would not participate in any protests aimed at using the Southwest as a battleground for political upheaval. He acknowledged global economic hardships and noted the Nigerian government’s efforts to reduce food prices and increase the minimum wage from 30,000 to 70,000.

Igboho called on Yoruba people and all Nigerians to reject the politically motivated protests and allow President Tinubu to complete his term. He urged the community to resist participating in the protests, advocating for change through democratic means in the 2027 elections.

He also issued a warning against instigating violence under the guise of protests, emphasizing the commitment to maintaining peace in Yorubaland.
