[dropcap]M[/dropcap]ojisola Lawal, a well-known fabric merchant, has died after allegedly hitting her head during an argument with her husband, Quadri Ibidapo.

The event occurred early on the morning of July 31, 2024, at their home in Ikotun.

Neighbours reported hearing a heated argument around 6 am, prompting them to intervene. Upon entering the home, they found Mojisola unconscious on the floor, with blood oozing from a head wound.

Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, she was pronounced dead on arrival. The police have since moved her body to Ikotun Police Station and arrested Ibidapo.

Mojisola, 42, was a prominent fabric merchant in the Ikotun market, known for her extensive collection of expensive lace materials.

A source close to the deceased informed Freelanews that Ibidapo was her fourth husband, as she had been married several times before, with previous marriages ending due to childlessness.

Interestingly, Mojisola initially met Ibidapo as her alfa, a spiritual advisor, before they married last December.

The incident has raised concerns about domestic violence, as the source indicated that Mojisola had shown signs of physical abuse, including ecchymosis, a condition characterised by skin discolouration due to bleeding underneath, typically from bruising.

She had previously reported her husband’s abusive behaviour to the police and had expressed her intent to pursue legal action. However, the police reportedly discouraged her, suggesting the matter could be resolved without court intervention.

“Last week, she came to me and showed a police report instructing her to go and take care of herself. Her body was visibly covered by ecchymosis, and she informed me that her husband beat her again,” the source recounted.

Initially, Ibidapo claimed that Mojisola had slipped while mopping the floor, causing her to hit her head.

However, under pressure from neighbours who reported hearing the couple arguing, he allegedly confessed to his role in the incident.

The tragedy has led to criticism of the police’s handling of the case, with some arguing that proper intervention could have prevented the fatal outcome.

Further details and updates are expected as investigations continue into this heartbreaking incident.
