Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has warned that Nigeria is in a crisis with 38 million citizens facing extreme hunger. He criticised President Tinubu’s administration for wasteful spending while millions suffer. Obi urges the government to focus on key development areas like agriculture, education, and health to address the country’s growing hunger and insecurity crisis.

According to Obi, 38 million Nigerians are on the verge of extreme hunger, marking a new low for the nation, which is already considered the world’s poverty capital.

He further criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for engaging in wasteful spending, which has worsened living conditions for millions.

Obi pointed to the government’s expensive purchases, such as a new presidential jet at $100 million and the renovation of the vice president’s lodge for N21 billion, as examples of unnecessary spending.

He also highlighted the construction of a National Assembly clinic costing N15 billion, calling it a misuse of public funds.

During an interview with News Central TV, Obi stressed the urgent need for the Federal Government to address food insecurity and unemployment through strategic investments in agriculture.

He warned that Nigeria’s current crisis stems from both human and food insecurity and suggested that the government must focus its limited resources on health, education, and poverty alleviation.

Additionally, Obi hinted at the possibility of forming a coalition with other opposition parties ahead of the 2027 presidential election, aiming to save Nigerians from the ongoing hunger and insecurity.
