Ekiti State University sexual misconduct

A Theatre and Media Arts student from Ekiti State University has accused Professor Adeseke of sexual misconduct, sparking investigations into the lecturer’s alleged actions.

[dropcap]A[/dropcap] fresh scandal has surfaced at Ekiti State University (EKSU) as a female student from the Theatre and Media Arts Department accused her lecturer, Professor Adefolaju Adeseke, of sexual misconduct.

In a petition submitted to the Omolade Asake Foundation on 24th July 2024, the student alleged that Prof. Adeseke forced her into sexual acts on multiple occasions.

The student claimed that Prof. Adeseke initially approached her after a wedding, where they shared a car ride.

She described how the lecturer’s inappropriate behaviour escalated over time, culminating in an incident at his office where he reportedly locked the door and assaulted her.

According to her account, Adeseke later apologised, expressing regret only after realising she was a virgin.

Fearful of failing her exams, the student stated she felt powerless against the professor’s actions due to his authority within the department.

The alleged victim expressed her distress, stating she now feels repulsed every time she sees Prof. Adeseke, making it difficult for her to focus on her studies.

Despite contacting him, Prof. Adeseke has yet to respond to the allegations.

Some staff members at the university, who chose to remain anonymous, described a history of similar accusations against Prof. Adeseke, with many claiming fear of retribution has kept them from speaking up.

A prior case involving his estranged wife in 2016, accusing him of defiling their daughters, adds to the controversy surrounding the professor.

Omolade Asake Foundation is actively investigating this case and gathering information from other potential victims. The Foundation has also promised to engage relevant authorities, including the university’s management, to ensure justice is served.

This case raises critical questions about the protection of female students at the university and the accountability of staff involved in sexual harassment.
