[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) at Kirikiri Lighter Terminal intercepted 51.25 kilogrammes of cannabis indica in September, valued at N256 million.
Joy Edeldouk, the Customs Area Controller of the command, disclosed this while handing over the seized drugs to the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the command in Apapa, Lagos.

Edeldouk explained that the interception violated Section 55 of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023. She emphasised that this operation demonstrates the command’s dedication to protecting Nigeria’s borders from the importation of illegal substances.
The Customs officers worked in conjunction with the NDLEA to seize the consignment on 11th September.
The Customs controller highlighted the devastating effects of drugs like cannabis indica, which contribute to crime, violence, and the destruction of lives.
She stated that the service’s efforts aim to protect vulnerable citizens, especially youths, from the dangers of harmful substances.
The seized drugs and suspects were handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and prosecution. Edeldouk vowed that those responsible for this illegal activity would face the full force of the law.
She warned importers against testing the resolve of the NCS and reassured legitimate traders of the service’s commitment to facilitating legal trade.
Edeldouk reiterated that the NCS, in collaboration with other agencies, will intensify efforts to eliminate dangerous contraband from Nigeria.
She declared that the NCS remains determined to protect the integrity of Nigeria’s borders and bring offenders to justice.
