[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Nigerian Correctional Service has confirmed the suspension of four senior officers linked to an alleged ₦15 million bribery scandal.

The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) announced the suspensions as part of ongoing efforts to address corruption within the service.

A trending video of one of the suspended officers claimed he had not received a letter of suspension. However, a statement from Umar Abubakar, Assistant Controller of Corrections and Public Relations Officer, described the officer’s denial as misleading and a gross act of misconduct.

The suspended officers include Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) Sikiru Adekunle, in charge of the Maximum Security Custodial Centre in Kirikiri, Lagos; DCC Michael Anugwa, overseeing the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kirikiri; DCC Kevin Ikechukwu Iloafonsi, from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kuje, Abuja; and Assistant Superintendent of Corrections (ASC II) Ogbule Samuel Obinna, based at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.

The service revealed that the officers were suspended to facilitate further investigations. Two letters, both dated 26th September 2024, were issued to the officers, confirming the suspension, which took effect from the same date.

The statement advised the public to remain patient as the service conducts a thorough investigation. Those found guilty would face penalties in line with Public Service Rules and other relevant laws.
