The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed counterfeit products worth N10 billion in the Northeast zone of Nigeria.

The public burning of these goods took place in Gombe State on Wednesday as part of the agency’s ongoing mission to eliminate substandard, falsified, and unsafe products from Nigerian markets.

Speaking at the event, NAFDAC’s Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, represented by North East Zonal Director Mr Kenneth Azikwe, expressed the agency’s dedication to protecting public health.

She emphasised that NAFDAC employs rigorous standards, innovative practices, and collaborates internationally to safeguard Nigerian consumers.

The destroyed products included food, drugs, and other regulated items seized by NAFDAC’s enforcement officers.

Adeyeye highlighted that had these counterfeit goods entered the market, they could have caused widespread harm across the region.

She urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious products, reiterating the agency’s goal of building a safer, healthier nation.

Mr James Agada, NAFDAC’s state coordinator, assured the public of the agency’s commitment to quality control.

He stated that the destruction of counterfeit goods is a core aspect of NAFDAC’s market control strategy to ensure only safe, high-quality products reach consumers.

Agada also promised increased surveillance and action against those prioritising profit over public safety.

NAFDAC’s efforts to strengthen regulatory frameworks continue to be a key aspect of ensuring public health and safety in Nigeria.
