LASEPA shuts down several Lagos churches and recreational centres in a crackdown on noise pollution, reinforcing environmental regulations across the state.

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has launched a crackdown on establishments breaching noise pollution regulations, sealing off several churches and recreational centres across the state.

In a statement released on Wednesday via its official ‘X’ handle, LASEPA confirmed that the closures were part of its ongoing efforts to reduce noise pollution and uphold environmental standards in Lagos.

The affected locations include prominent establishments such as the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Celestial Church of God, Honourable Lounge & Lodging, and OMA Night Club & Lounge, among others.

The enforcement, which targeted areas including Ogudu, Gbagada, Iyana Ejigbo, Isolo, Ajao Estate, Oshodi, Ilasamaja, and Okota, aimed to address various environmental violations.

LASEPA stated that despite multiple warnings, these establishments continued to violate noise control regulations, prompting the agency’s intervention.

“The affected establishments were found guilty of breaching environmental regulations despite repeated warnings.

LASEPA’s zero-tolerance policy on non-compliance means that we will not tolerate disregard for these important standards,” the agency’s statement read.

In addition to the churches and recreational centres, several hotels were also sealed, including Emota Paradise Hotel (Phase 2), CF Hotel & Suites, House 27 Hotel & Suites, Echo Spring Hotel, and Smile T Continental Hotel.

The agency urged all businesses operating within Lagos to respect the environmental obligations set by the state government, emphasising the importance of fostering a cleaner, quieter, and more sustainable Lagos.

The ongoing efforts are part of LASEPA’s commitment to safeguarding public health and improving the quality of life for Lagos residents.
