Rodri reignites the Messi vs Ronaldo debate, praising Messi’s innate talent while suggesting Ronaldo’s success lacks the same natural gift.

[dropcap]M[/dropcap]anchester City midfielder Rodri has sparked heated debates in football after boldly claiming that Cristiano Ronaldo lacks innate talent compared to Lionel Messi.

His comments, shared during an interview on Spanish TV programme El Hormiguero on Wednesday, have divided fans and reignited discussions on the age-old rivalry between the two football icons.

Rodri, who is currently recovering from knee surgery, made his stance clear when asked to weigh in on the “greatest of all time” debate.

He firmly sided with Messi, calling the Argentine forward “the greatest player of all time, without any doubt.”

Expanding on his opinion, the midfielder drew attention to the differences he observed while playing against both legends.

“Cristiano has managed to match Messi without innate talent. But those of us who have played against them can see the difference,” Rodri stated.

The Spaniard highlighted the distinct challenges posed by each player on the pitch. He noted that Ronaldo’s threat was concentrated in the penalty area, saying, “With Cristiano, we didn’t want him to step into the box because he was lethal there.”

However, he described Messi as an omnipresent danger, adding, “With Messi, the danger was everywhere on the pitch.”

Rodri’s remarks have drawn mixed reactions across social media and football forums. While some fans praised his insight, others criticised what they perceived as an undervaluation of Ronaldo’s abilities and achievements.

Apart from discussing the Messi-Ronaldo rivalry, Rodri reflected on his personal career milestone—winning the Ballon d’Or last month. The Manchester City star beat Real Madrid’s Vinícius Júnior to clinch the prestigious award.

Recalling the experience, Rodri admitted he was initially sceptical about his chances. “There was a rumour three weeks prior that Vinícius was going to win, so I had no optimism going to the gala,” he said.

“But just before arriving in Paris, many people started congratulating me. I didn’t even have a speech prepared, but my father insisted I prepare something just in case.”
