Governor Abba Yusuf unveils major land management reforms in Kano State, accusing ex-governor Ganduje of corruption and mismanagement.

[dropcap]K[/dropcap]ano Governor Abba Yusuf has accused his predecessor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, of fostering corruption and nepotism in urban planning and land allocations during his tenure.

In a strongly worded statement by his spokesperson, Comrade Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf criticised Ganduje, who now serves as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), for mismanagement and inefficiency in handling urban development.

The governor vowed to rectify these alleged lapses through sweeping reforms aimed at promoting accountability, innovation, and sustainable development in Kano State.

To address these challenges, Governor Yusuf introduced a landmark recertification programme for Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O).

This initiative seeks to establish a transparent, secure, and efficient land management system, safeguarding investments and resolving disputes. Yusuf encouraged landowners to participate promptly in the recertification process.

A cornerstone of these reforms is the revamping of the Kano State Geographic Information System (KANGIS) and the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning.

These facilities have been fully renovated and equipped with advanced ICT infrastructure to modernise service delivery and ensure professional operations.

The governor emphasised the introduction of a state-of-the-art Geographic Information System (GIS) to enhance urban planning, improve taxation processes, and eliminate revenue leakages.

This modernisation effort aims to address pressing urban development challenges while preserving Kano’s cultural heritage.

Governor Yusuf has also taken firm measures to curb inappropriate land allocations, banning such practices outright.

Additionally, a State Task Force on Development Control has been established to oversee urban development and maintain order in line with the administration’s vision.

“These reforms reflect our commitment to professionalism, transparency, and sustainable development,” Yusuf stated, describing the revamped systems as a milestone in Kano’s journey towards efficient governance.

The reforms underscore Governor Yusuf’s pledge to uphold accountability while steering Kano State towards growth and sustainability.
