Davido claims he’s been receiving threats after criticising Nigeria’s economy on a U.S. podcast, alleging his Lagos show may be cancelled due to his remarks.

[dropcap]A[/dropcap]frobeats superstar, Davido, has revealed that he has been receiving threats following his critical comments about Nigeria’s economy during an appearance on an American podcast.

The singer, who has always been outspoken, made headlines after he discussed the state of the Nigerian economy on the Big Homies House podcast, warning U.S. citizens against relocating to Africa, particularly Nigeria, which he described as being in “shambles.”

Davido’s remarks sparked a significant backlash, with many Nigerians, including public figures such as Joe Igbokwe and Reno Omokri, expressing their displeasure.

These critics took to social media to berate the singer for what they perceived as an unfair portrayal of the country.

In response to the backlash, Davido took to his X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that the anger directed at him was a result of entertainers being the “real ambassadors” of the country.

“Yall mad cus we the real ambassadors!” he wrote, defending his stance and the role of entertainers in shaping perceptions of the nation.

In another post, the singer claimed that there have been threats to cancel his highly anticipated show in Lagos this December due to his remarks.

“Dem say dem go cancel my show cus of my interview … loooool I don’t have to perform in Nigeria,” he wrote, suggesting that such threats would not deter him.

Davido’s comments and the resulting controversy highlight the complex dynamics between celebrities, their public statements, and the reactions they receive, particularly when it comes to national issues.
