President Bola Tinubu, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and Ooni of Ife  Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi have expressed deep sorrow toward the tragic stampede that claimed the lives of several children during a public event in Ibadan, Oyo State.

In a statement released on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the incident as devastating and called for a thorough investigation to uncover the cause.

He also directed a review of safety measures at public events to prevent future occurrences.“

Our children’s safety and well-being remain paramount. No event should ever compromise their safety or take precedence over their lives,” the President said. He extended condolences to the families of the victims, the Oyo State Government, and the people of the state.

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu also mourned the victims, praying for their families and for the speedy recovery of those injured.

“I condole with the Governor of Oyo State, HE Seyi Makinde, and the people of Oyo State. May the Lord grant peace to those who have passed and strength to their grieving families,” she said.

Ooni of Ife Sympathizes with Families

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, through his spokesperson Moses Olafare, also conveyed his condolences to the affected families and organizers of the event.

He lamented the loss of young lives and stressed the importance of enhanced safety measures for children.

“The tragedy highlights the urgent need for collaborative efforts to ensure the safety of children in all spaces.

The House of Oduduwa stands with the grieving families and pledges support to provide healing and solace during this difficult time,” the statement read.

The Ooni’s palace commended Governor Makinde’s swift response to the tragedy and called for stricter adherence to safety regulations at public events.

The monarch also urged event organizers to uphold high standards of safety in future initiatives for children.

As the nation mourns this devastating loss, leaders have reiterated the need for collective action to prevent similar tragedies and ensure children’s safety remains a top priority.
