Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has issued a strict ultimatum to the chairmen of the state’s 13 Local Government Areas, demanding that all outstanding salaries and pensions be paid to workers by today, Monday, December 23.
If this is not fulfilled, the governor has threatened that the chairmen will be forced to resign.
The governor made this statement during the Elders and Widows’ Party, organized by the state government at the Christian Ecumenical Centre in Abakaliki on Sunday.
He expressed his dissatisfaction over the delay in salary payments, calling it “unacceptable” and emphasizing that his administration would uphold its governance agenda, the Charter of Needs, which focuses on the well-being of Ebonyi citizens.
“By 2 PM tomorrow, all local government staff must receive their October and November salaries. If this is not done, the chairmen should step down,” Governor Nwifuru stated firmly.
The governor further reiterated his administration’s commitment to delivering good governance and warned against any actions that could sabotage its objectives.
In a related move, Nwifuru also announced a special welfare package for 5,000 elders and widows at the event.
Each beneficiary will receive ₦50,000, a 25kg bag of rice, and a wrapper, as part of the state’s efforts to support its most vulnerable citizens during the holiday season.
