ABUTH kidney transplant 2025

ABUTH Zaria announces plans to launch kidney transplant services by 2025, backed by advanced facilities and trained personnel.

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) in Zaria, Kaduna State, has announced plans to commence kidney transplant surgeries in 2025.

According to Dr Ahmed Umdagas, the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, the Urology Centre of Excellence will be fully operational by the first quarter of the year, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s healthcare sector.

In an interview with the press, Dr Umdagas revealed, “By the first quarter of 2025, ABUTH would commence kidney transplant.

What was just holding us was a few infrastructure.” He added that the necessary equipment is already in place, and personnel have undergone extensive training to deliver the services effectively.

The hospital is also introducing an amenity wing designed to cater to patients of all classes, from standard single-bed rooms to luxury suites for affluent patients.

Dr Umdagas noted, “The amenity wing would have a dedicated line and a website, allowing patients to book appointments with specialists seamlessly.”

To further position itself as a leader in healthcare and reverse medical tourism trends, ABUTH has invested in cutting-edge diagnostic tools, including a fully functional 128 Slice CT Scan machine, which offers services at a fraction of the cost compared to international facilities.

“If you are doing an investigation abroad using the 128 Slice CT Scan, it would cost not less than $200, over ₦300,000, but ABUTH charges just ₦30,000,” Dr Umdagas explained.

The hospital also boasts high-performance MRI machines and offers lithotripsy, a non-surgical procedure for breaking kidney stones using lasers.

Dr Umdagas emphasised that these developments reflect ABUTH’s commitment to delivering global-standard healthcare services. “Our aim is to ensure Nigerians receive world-class medical care without needing to travel abroad,” he stated.

With the upcoming kidney transplant programme and other advanced facilities, ABUTH is setting a benchmark for affordable, high-quality medical services in Nigeria.
