Hon. Agboworin’s constituents praise his performance despite criticisms of his English skills, urging focus on delivery over language

[dropcap]H[/dropcap]on. Adigun Abass, popularly known as Agboworin, representing Ibadan South East/North East Federal Constituency, has sparked widespread discussion following a video showing his struggle to articulate a motion at the National Assembly.

The incident highlighted his challenges with English communication, igniting debates about the importance of language proficiency among public officials.

While some criticised the lawmaker’s command of English, his constituents have rallied to his defence, emphasising his exemplary performance and delivery of impactful projects.

Agboworin is lauded for his numerous empowerment schemes, scholarships, and infrastructure development, which his supporters argue outweigh any shortcomings in communication skills.

One constituent commented, “Hon. Agboworin is a performer. His many empowerment schemes are top-notch, but his communication skills need improvement. He’ll get there.” Another added, “We’re not bothered about his English. Come to our constituency and see countless projects he has delivered—scholarships, security, and infrastructure.”

The debate has also reignited calls for adopting local languages in the National Assembly, enabling lawmakers to express themselves fluently with the aid of interpreter headphones.

Supporters argue that prioritising delivery over language is more relevant to governance.

Critics, however, emphasised the need for communication skills in a national platform, warning that inadequate language proficiency could be exploited by opponents.

One noted, “Communication matters, or others will use that to edge you out. Thank you, Honourable, but improve on your skills.”

Despite the mixed reactions, Hon. Agboworin’s impact on his constituency remains undeniable.

His supporters view him as a dedicated representative focused on delivering tangible dividends of democracy.

As the debates continue, many constituents remain steadfast in their support for Agboworin, urging him to keep up the good work while addressing his communication challenges.
