In a statement released on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, in Ibadan, the government emphasised the importance of involving security and medical personnel for planned events.

“Security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Civil Defence Corps, Amotekun, and Operation Burst, must be part of the planning process to ensure adequate logistics and seamless gatherings,” Oyelade stated.

Additionally, the Ministry of Health, the Hospitals Management Board, and private hospitals, where necessary, must be consulted to provide adequate medical support.

Event planners were also urged to coordinate with venue managers, security personnel, and medical teams to create a safe environment for attendees.

The commissioner reminded the public of the state’s mourning period following the tragic loss of 35 children at a gathering in Ibadan on December 18, 2024. He warned that violators of these guidelines would face strict legal consequences.

This proactive stance by the government aims to prevent any recurrence of past tragedies while ensuring that Valentine’s Day celebrations proceed safely.
