A calculated smear campaign targets the Olu of Warri, falsely linking him to oil theft. Stakeholders urge focus on facts, not propaganda

[dropcap]A[/dropcap] recent wave of propaganda against the Olu of Warri and his associates has raised concerns over a coordinated attempt to discredit the revered traditional ruler and his contributions to the peace and stability of the Niger Delta.

The allegations linking the monarch and Pipeline Infrastructures Nigeria Limited (PINL) to oil theft and economic sabotage have been widely condemned as baseless and misleading.

Analysts have pointed out that these accusations are part of a calculated smear campaign designed to manipulate public perception.

Rather than acknowledging the vital role played by the Olu of Warri and PINL in stabilising the region, the sponsors of these false narratives have resorted to blackmail and misinformation.

Their goal appears to be shifting attention away from their own failures in ensuring the transparent execution of national projects.

The framing of the Olu of Warri and PINL as financiers of ethnic unrest and criminal activities is not just false—it is a deliberate misrepresentation of reality.

Observers have noted the suspicious nature of the allegations, especially as the same reports seem to selectively praise certain individuals while targeting others.

This clear bias undermines the credibility of those spreading the misinformation.

At a time when Nigeria is intensifying its fight against oil theft and pushing for sustainable development in the Niger Delta, stakeholders have called for a focus on factual, evidence-based discussions.

The international community, particularly institutions such as the United Nations, must resist the influence of propaganda and remain committed to fairness and impartiality.

It is crucial to differentiate between genuine concerns and politically motivated smear campaigns that serve the interests of a few at the expense of national progress.

The credibility of international partners depends on their ability to discern truth from falsehood and support those genuinely working towards regional stability and economic growth.

This baseless smear campaign should be dismissed with the contempt it deserves. Stakeholders across the Niger Delta have urged the public to reject misleading narratives aimed at undermining individuals committed to development and security.

The Olu of Warri’s long-standing efforts to promote peace, economic empowerment, and environmental sustainability must not be overshadowed by propaganda.
