Speaking in a candid interview with Forbes Africa on Thursday, the award-winning artist shared her thoughts on the challenges of managing musicians and her plans to support emerging talents in alternative ways.

According to Tiwa, the responsibility of managing an artiste is incredibly stressful, and she doesn’t feel equipped to take on such a role.

With a reputation as one of Africa’s leading female musicians, Tiwa admitted that the pressures of managing an artiste can be overwhelming.

“Everyone always asks me, ‘When will you sign an artiste?’ I don’t think I have the gift to sign another artiste, because artistes are stressful,” she explained. “I could just be sleeping, and then I will wake up and my artist is trending for something else.”

While Tiwa Savage is firm in her decision not to sign new talent, she stressed that she still wants to play an instrumental role in the growth of up-and-coming musicians.

Rather than signing artists directly, she is focusing on creating opportunities for them through alternative avenues.

One of her major initiatives is the establishment of a music school that will help aspiring musicians develop their skills before potentially signing with a record label that can offer the support they need.

Tiwa Savage’s music school project aims to provide a nurturing environment where young talents can hone their craft, thus empowering them to succeed in the competitive music industry.

By creating this platform, she hopes to fill a gap that many emerging musicians face: the lack of proper training and resources before stepping into the world of record labels.

“But I do have the gift to help, which is why I am trying to do the music school, where you can go and later sign to a label that can actually help you,” she added, showing her commitment to helping the next generation of Nigerian and African musicians.

This announcement comes after Tiwa’s comments in previous interviews about the challenging and sometimes cutthroat nature of the Nigerian music industry, which she has described as “filled with dangerous sharks.”

However, her focus remains on contributing positively to the scene and ensuring that talented individuals receive the right opportunities and guidance to succeed.

With her music school, Tiwa Savage hopes to mentor the future of African music, offering a structured path for aspiring stars who might otherwise struggle to find their footing in the industry.
