Buba Galadima SDP APC faction

Buba Galadima

Buba Galadima criticises the Social Democratic Party as an extension of the APC, questioning its independence amid rising defections, including Nasir El-Rufai

[dropcap]B[/dropcap]uba Galadima, a prominent figure in the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has labelled the Social Democratic Party (SDP) as a faction of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In an interview on Arise Television’s The Morning Show on Tuesday, Galadima questioned the SDP’s independence, alleging that the party is merely an offshoot of the APC.

“The SDP is a branch of the APC. It was those APC people who moved to what you now call SDP. How many people from other parties have moved to the SDP?” Galadima said, challenging both the media and the public to consider the true nature of the SDP.

He further noted, “This is the character of Lagos; to decimate opposition,” referring to the political dynamics in the region.

Galadima’s remarks come amid significant political developments, particularly the recent defection of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, from the APC to the SDP.

El-Rufai, who has been actively rallying support for the SDP, aims to build a strong opposition to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

Galadima also expressed his discontent with opposition figures who rejoined the APC after their failed bids for power.

He highlighted the case of Abdul-Azeez Adediran, also known as Jandor, the former Lagos PDP governorship candidate, who rejoined the APC citing internal crises within the PDP.

“Look at what Jandor has done. Look at the support the people of Lagos have given Jandor. In fact, I will say that he won the election. It was taken away from him.

But look at him, he just backpedalled and went back to the APC. How are we going to do opposition? We should do opposition of principles,” Galadima said, criticising the lack of political consistency in Nigeria.

Despite the shifting alliances in Nigerian politics, Galadima reaffirmed the NNPP’s commitment to maintaining its principles. “We are a party of ideology.

We are a party of principle. We don’t just go into a coalition for the sake of it because we want power at all costs. We are content with the platform we have. One day, we can grow this party and win the national election,” he added.
