President Tinubu plans urgent security meeting after return, addressing rising killings in Plateau, Benue, and other regions

[dropcap]P[/dropcap]resident Bola Tinubu is set to convene an urgent meeting with service chiefs and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, following his return from an 18-day working visit to Paris and London, to address the escalating violence in Plateau, Benue, and other regions.

The meeting comes amidst rising concerns over recent killings, with over 120 lives lost and thousands displaced since April 2nd.

“The President will certainly meet the service chiefs to review the security situation across the country and the flash point of Plateau, Benue and Borno.

He has been getting security briefings while away and giving directives to the security chiefs. So, he will meet his security chiefs and ministers too,” a source from Aso Rock confirmed.

The President’s return on Monday night, with his aircraft landing at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at 09:50 PM, signals a prompt response to the growing security crisis.

The recent surge in violence, including the tragic loss of 72 lives in Logo and Gbagir, Benue State, has prompted the President to prioritize immediate action.

Furthermore, the Presidency, through Special Adviser Daniel Bwala, has highlighted the role of state governors in the security challenges, citing insufficient funding of state security outfits despite substantial security votes.

“What we are finding, very sadly, is that there are some states where the governors give N20m to the SSS, N20m to the police, and N20m to the army as monthly allocation for fighting insecurity.

And you hear their security vote is between N1bn, N2bn and N3bn. Where are we going?” Bwala stated on TVC’s Beyond the Headlines.

The upcoming security meeting aims to review current security measures and implement strategies to curb the rising violence and ensure the safety of citizens.
