A grieving Lagos mother demands justice after her daughter, a LASU graduate, was found dead and tied in her boyfriend’s apartment

[dropcap]A[/dropcap] grieving Lagos mother, Biliki Adisa, has called for justice after her daughter, Adijat, a Lagos State University (LASU) graduate, was found dead in her boyfriend’s apartment.

Speaking in Yoruba, the heartbroken mother explained that she had repeatedly warned her daughter against the relationship, suspecting danger.

Adijat had recently completed her youth service and was working with Pocket Fuel Company in Yaba before her untimely death.

The mother recounted her deep concern when Adijat introduced her boyfriend, whom she disapproved of.

“I told her immediately that I didn’t approve of him and she shouldn’t date him again. She told me he is an Igbira man. I told her I don’t like those people,” she said.

On March 25, the day before Adijat went missing, she had a video call with her mother around 9pm, assuring her she was safe at home.

However, the next morning, her boss called to report that Adijat had not shown up at work. Several calls to Adijat’s phone went unanswered.

Neighbours revealed that they last saw Adijat around midnight and later found her apartment doors wide open.

Her younger brother managed to reach her briefly on the phone, during which she said she was in a “precarious situation,” but gave no further details.

As panic grew, Adijat’s former boyfriend also reached out, claiming he had been trying to contact her.

The distraught mother suspects ritual motives behind her daughter’s death, lamenting the tragic end of a young woman with a promising future.

“I’m Adijat’s mum, who gave birth to her on October 26, 2000. I’m a single mother of two. I have been the only one training her since primary school before she graduated recently from Lagos State University (LASU).

“Having served, she was working with Pocket Fuel Company in Yaba (in Lagos).

“Adijat was yet to formally introduce the guy to me as her fiancé, but I noticed she was always in communication with someone on the phone. I was the one that mandated her to introduce the person she was always discussing with on the phone to me. So I was able to hear his voice over the phone.

“And I would always tell the guy that he should come around for proper introduction so she could be sure of the identity of the person my daughter was dating.

“I would also tell my daughter to introduce someone since she is of age to be married. Unfortunately, I met the guy once.

“Whenever she came from where she was posted to serve and I noticed some bruises on her, she might claim she entered one chance or claim she got wounded at her workplace.

“I was forced to change her from Ogun State to start working from Yaba, where I also work.

“But when I saw the boy she introduced to me, I told her immediately that I didn’t approve of him and she shouldn’t date him again. She told me he is an Igbira man. I told her I don’t like those people.

“That very day in the evening of the 25th of March, I went to check her younger brother in school. She (Adijat) called me and told me her boss told her to go back home and work from there because there was traffic.

“On Wednesday, she called me and we talked until late in the night. At 9pm, I told her to switch to a video call, which she did. I was hearing our neighbours in the background and at a point she informed me she was going to bed. We bade each other goodnight and I slept around past 10pm.

“The following day being Thursday, her boss called me a few minutes to 10am that she was yet to see Adijat at work. So I told her not to worry that I would find out what happened.

“I called Adijat’s direct line and also on WhatsApp but she didn’t pick. And I called a neighbour to help check on her but I was informed they were with Adijat the previous night till around midnight.

“But they searched around the house and couldn’t find her. And when they checked our house they informed me that our doors were wide open. For this reason, I continued to call her severally but she didn’t pick. I then informed the younger brother I was with that his sister didn’t pick my call.

“He offered to call her himself, which he did. He told me that she said she would call me back, that she was in a precarious situation at that moment.

“But while I continued to call her, I kept seeing her former boyfriend’s calls, which I didn’t pick because I didn’t want to give him any update on my daughter since they were no longer together.

“Around 11pm, I was forced to pick his call and he told me he had been trying to get in touch with Adijat and asked if she went to work on Thursday, which I responded to in the affirmative. And I disconnected the call immediately.”
