The programme is a key component of Transcorp’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, designed to instil environmental awareness and sustainable practices in young Nigerians.

The initiative, themed “Transcorp Transforms School Recycling Initiative,” commenced with an insightful lecture on waste separation and the multifaceted benefits of recycling.

A dedicated waste management team educated students on how the simple act of recycling plastic bottles could not only contribute to environmental preservation but also generate income.

Owen Omogiafo, President and Group CEO of Transcorp Group, led an engaging interactive session, emphasising the significant environmental risks associated with careless waste disposal.

She underscored the long-term impact of waste mismanagement on future generations and the critical importance of fostering responsible habits today.

We’re seeing floods and disasters globally, including wildfires in California and evacuations in Argentina.

To facilitate the programme, two large recycling collection bins, specifically for paper and plastics, were unveiled on the school grounds, met with enthusiastic cheers from students and staff alike.

Ms. Omogiafo elaborated that the initiative is part of Transcorp’s broader commitment to environmental education in schools.

She explained that by raising awareness among children, the company aims to cultivate a generation that values sustainability and adopts responsible environmental habits from an early age.

“We’re seeing floods and disasters globally, including wildfires in California and evacuations in Argentina,” she noted, reinforcing the urgency of environmental action.

Furthermore, Ms. Omogiafo called upon other companies to follow Transcorp’s lead and support environmental causes across Nigeria, highlighting a collective responsibility.

She affirmed that Ireti Senior Grammar School is “one of many” and that Transcorp will “continue reaching out to more schools nationwide.”

She also revealed that Transcorp-owned schools already integrate similar environmental education campaigns throughout the year.

Transcorp, known for its extensive investments in power, energy, and hospitality, is backed by 300,000 shareholders.

The initiative was warmly received by the school community. Student representative, Utsu Comfort, expressed gratitude to Transcorp and pledged the students’ full participation in adopting improved waste practices.
