The Delta State Police Command confirmed on Monday, 9 June 2025, that a 40-year-old man identified as Kingsley Ugochukwu was apprehended by operatives of the DOPS Buffalo Team, under the command of DSP Charles Evboifo.

The raid, based on credible intelligence, was carried out at a food canteen known to serve as a hideout for cultists.

According to police spokesperson Bright Edafe, the suspect attempted to dispose of a locally fabricated Beretta pistol upon noticing the police presence. The firearm was recovered shortly after by officers at the scene.

Further investigation revealed a twist when the suspect made a suspicious call to his wife while in custody. Acting on this development, the operatives expanded their investigation.

“It was later revealed that the suspect ordered his wife to check their bedroom and dispose of another long-range single-barrel gun in an uncompleted building,” Mr Edafe explained.

The wife was subsequently arrested, and her confession led to the recovery of the second firearm.

Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, reassured residents of the command’s resolve to stamp out violent crime and cult-related activity across the state.

“Our officers remain vigilant in flushing out criminal elements. Public cooperation through credible information is vital to our success,” CP Olufemi said, urging citizens to report suspicious activities without delay.
