Suspected Lakurawa gunmen have killed a foreign national and two security personnel working on the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway project in Kebbi State, following an attack on a construction site in Maiyama Local Government Area on Thursday, October 8, 2026.
Two civilians also sustained gunshot injuries during the assault at Gubba village, through Andarai District, according to the Kebbi State Police Command.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed the incident in a statement, identifying the attackers as suspected Lakurawa terrorists allegedly entering the area from the Kebbe axis of neighbouring Sokoto State.
According to Usman, the gunmen stormed the construction site and killed three people, including a foreign national and two security personnel assigned to the project.
The two injured civilians were subsequently evacuated for medical treatment.
The police spokesperson said joint security teams responded to the incident, deploying tactical personnel to reinforce security around the affected communities and prevent further attacks.
Usman also disclosed that another attack by suspected Lakurawa gunmen along the Birnin Malam axis was successfully repelled by police teams on the same day.
He added that military personnel neutralised several of the suspected attackers during the security operations, while a number of motorcycles were recovered.
The police did not provide further details about the identities or nationalities of the deceased foreign national, the injured civilians or the security personnel.
Construction activities at the affected section of the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway have been suspended following the deadly attack, as security agencies intensify surveillance and deploy additional personnel to the area.
The suspension underscores the security challenges facing major infrastructure projects in parts of north-western Nigeria, where armed groups have continued to pose risks to communities, workers and public facilities.
The Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway is a major federal infrastructure project intended to improve connectivity across several states.
The attack raises fresh concerns about the safety of construction workers and the continuity of work in areas affected by insecurity.
The Kebbi State Police Command assured workers on the project that the government remained committed to protecting their lives and property.
Usman urged workers to remain calm and resolute while security agencies continued efforts to restore safety and prevent further attacks.
The latest incident adds to growing security concerns in Kebbi State, where suspected Lakurawa militants and other armed groups have been linked to violent attacks in parts of the region.

Security agencies are continuing operations in the affected areas, with additional deployments intended to strengthen protection for residents and workers and prevent a recurrence of the violence.
