Police arrest family home attack suspect linked to vandalism at Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s residence in Ihima, Kogi Central, during fresh assault

[dropcap]A[/dropcap] fresh security scare has gripped Ihima in Kogi State after a family home attack suspect was arrested at the residence of suspended senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The police confirmed that the man, identified as Jose Suberu, was apprehended at the scene of the violent intrusion on Tuesday.

The Kogi State Police Command disclosed that the arrest followed another targeted assault on the senator’s ancestral home in Okehi Local Government Area.

State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, stated that the suspect had already confessed to taking part in the attack.

“Yes it’s true and one suspect, Joe Suberu was arrested at the scene. Efforts are on to arrest the fleeing others,” he said.

A statement from the Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Media Office revealed that the attackers, armed with cutlasses and charms, shattered several windows during the incident.

The media team noted that the quick response of local police officers, community vigilantes, and concerned youths helped repel the gang.

The captured individual, a native of Ihima, was described as a ritualist. According to the senator’s media aides, he admitted to participating in two previous attacks on the same residence.

They allege that he has ties to political rivals of the embattled lawmaker, although no names were mentioned.

The tension escalated when a mob attempted to lynch the suspect before security agents intervened. A cutlass and a bundle of charms were recovered from him. While Suberu remains in custody, other members of the group are still on the run.

Security analysts have raised concerns over the recurring nature of these attacks, particularly given that a similar incident took place in April.

That earlier event saw no arrests, leaving the community anxious about the lack of accountability.

This latest development is expected to renew scrutiny on security arrangements around political figures in Kogi and the role of local collaborators in fuelling violence.
