Nigeria Police officers have been ordered to urgently submit detailed personal data to update the National Housing Fund records with the Federal Mortgage Bank

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Nigeria Police Force has directed all formations and units across the country to urgently compile and submit the personal and financial details of officers to the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), SaharaReporters has exclusively learned.

A wireless message marked IMMEDIATE, obtained on Friday, was issued by the Chief Finance Officer (CFO) of the Makurdi Police Command and sent to commands nationwide.

It mandated the collection of a wide range of sensitive data as part of efforts to update the National Housing Fund (NHF) individual contribution payment schedule.

Addressed to multiple police divisions — including AIG Zones 1–17, state police finance departments, Police Academy Kano, and various squadron commanders — the memo outlined the urgent need for a comprehensive spreadsheet of each officer’s personal information.

The requested data includes:

  • NHF Participation Number
  • IPPIS Number
  • Service Number
  • Rank and Full Name
  • Command/Formation
  • Title (Mr/Mrs/Miss)
  • Date of Employment and Birth
  • GSM Number and Email Address
  • Bank Name, Account Number, BVN
  • NIN (National Identification Number)
  • Marital Status
  • Next of Kin Name and Phone Number

The directive, referencing a prior message from the DFA at Force Headquarters Abuja, specified that the data should be compiled in Microsoft Excel format and submitted via the designated email or WhatsApp lines no later than Tuesday, June 27, 2025.

According to the message, the move is to ensure “trouble-free withdrawal of NHF refunds” and facilitate “online application to FMBN special loan products such as home renovation loans, rent-to-own packages, and construction loans.”

Police administrators were instructed to “carefully verify all information to ensure there are no mistakes,” indicating the sensitivity and urgency of the exercise.

This directive, while aimed at streamlining access to housing benefits for officers, has stirred concerns over data privacy and the secure handling of such comprehensive personal information.

However, police authorities have maintained that the measure is necessary for seamless integration into FMBN’s electronic banking and housing schemes.
