Elon Musk political party launches emotional bid to end US one-party rule

Elon Musk political party announced to end what he calls a US one-party system, launching the America Party to offer political freedom and national reform

[dropcap]E[/dropcap]lon Musk political party has officially launched in the United States, as the tech billionaire announced the creation of the America Party to challenge what he described as a broken one-party system.

The move marks a significant political shift for the world’s richest man and former ally of US President Donald Trump.

Musk made the announcement on Saturday through a post on X, the social media platform he owns. “When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste and graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom,” he wrote.

This declaration followed a viral poll Musk posted a day earlier, coinciding with US Independence Day. The survey asked users whether they supported independence from the entrenched two-party system that has dominated American politics for nearly 200 years.

More than 1.2 million people responded to the poll, with a clear majority voting in favour of a new alternative.

“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!” Musk posted the next day. The announcement ignited immediate reactions across the political spectrum, drawing both praise and criticism.

Once one of Donald Trump’s most influential backers, Musk distanced himself from the Republican president following a public fallout.

Musk had served as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency, a role created by the Trump administration to slash federal spending and reduce government jobs.

The partnership soured after disagreements over execution and rising tension over budget cuts.

Observers have long speculated about Musk’s next political step, but few anticipated the sudden unveiling of a full political platform.

His new party, dubbed the America Party, aims to disrupt the traditional two-party control that Musk claims has led to stagnation, corruption, and inefficiency in government.

Speaking off the record, a senior advisor close to the development said Musk intends to back candidates in the 2026 midterms and may consider fielding a presidential candidate in 2028.

While Musk himself did not confirm any personal plans to run for office, the announcement was widely interpreted as the beginning of a broader political movement.

“People are tired of empty promises from both sides,” said the advisor. “The America Party isn’t about left or right. It’s about restoring functionality, truth, and freedom to the American people.”

Musk’s critics, however, argue that the formation of another party could further divide voters and benefit the status quo.

Others question whether a political party backed by one of the wealthiest individuals in history can truly represent the average citizen.

Despite scepticism, early responses suggest substantial public interest. His Independence Day poll gained traction across political lines, and Musk’s use of X as a direct political tool mirrors how Trump previously used the platform to shape public opinion.

Musk’s influence extends far beyond politics. With Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink, and other ventures under his belt, he commands global attention.

Analysts say this will allow him to mobilise significant financial and media resources to support his new party.

“It’s not just a political party,” said a political commentator on national television. “It’s a movement. Whether it succeeds or not, it signals a major disruption.”

As the US heads into an already polarising election season, the creation of Elon Musk political party adds a bold new dynamic.

Supporters argue it represents a long-overdue challenge to the dominance of Democrats and Republicans. Detractors caution that it could cause chaos without a clear platform or viable candidates.

Either way, the America Party has arrived, and with Musk’s backing, it is unlikely to be ignored.
