Plateau State farmers killed

At least 27 Plateau State farmers killed in a fresh attack on Bindi-Jebbu, Riyom LGA, with survivors rushed to hospitals amid calls for urgent security action

At least 27 farmers have been confirmed dead following a brutal gunmen attack on Bindi-Jebbu in the Tahoss community, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The incident occurred on Monday and affected both men and women. Many others sustained injuries and were rushed to hospitals, including Jos University Teaching Hospital and Plateau Hospital.

The chairman of Riyom LGA, Bature Shuwa, acknowledged the attack but said he was on his way to the affected community and could not confirm the number of victims.

Dalyop Solomon, National President of the Berom Youth Moulders Association, confirmed the death toll.

“Twenty-seven persons were killed, and many were injured. We have taken the bodies to different hospitals before the burial,” he stated.

Witnesses said the gunmen, suspected to be from the Fulani ethnic group, stormed the area firing sporadically and burning houses, leaving many villagers displaced.

As of press time, security agencies had not issued an official statement. Repeated efforts to reach Operation Safe Haven and the Plateau police spokespersons yielded no response.

The attack has drawn public concern and renewed fears about persistent insecurity in Plateau State. The state government recently recruited 150 agro-rangers to help combat rural violence, but communities say more must be done.
