Ilorin cleric’s death sentence has been confirmed by a Kwara State High Court after a chilling murder case that shook the Ilorin community.

Justice was delivered on Wednesday as AbdulRahman Mohammed Bello, a young Islamic cleric, was sentenced to death by hanging for killing his girlfriend, Hafsoh Yetunde Lawal, in cold blood.
The court, sitting in Ilorin, found Bello guilty of murdering the final-year student of the Kwara State College of Education and dismembering her body in a horrifying crime committed in February.
During the trial, overwhelming evidence including Bello’s confessional statement, forensic findings, and witness testimonies led the court to a decisive verdict.
Bello had earlier pleaded for mercy when granted the opportunity to address the court before sentencing.
Justice in this case marks a landmark judgment in Kwara State’s fight against gender-based violence and crime, particularly as it involves abuse of trust within personal relationships.
