Student Killings in Akungba spark outrage as AAUA Alumni urge Ondo Government and security agencies to take swift action to protect university students
Student Killings in Akungba have drawn sharp condemnation from the Alumni Association of Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA), Akungba Akoko, following the recent deaths of three undergraduates.

In a strongly worded statement on Friday, the group’s Publicity Secretary, O’Seun Ogunsakin, described the killings allegedly carried out by indigenes of the host community as unfortunate, unacceptable, and deeply troubling.
“The latest victim was a final-year student and PoS operator,” the statement noted. “These killings highlight a disturbing trend of extortion and hostility faced by AAUA students in Akungba-Akoko.”
The alumni body urged Ondo State Government, the Nigeria Police, DSS, and traditional rulers in the region to take immediate action to stem the tide of violence.
They emphasized that students deserve to feel safe in their academic environment.
Calling attention to the eroding safety in the once peaceful community, the group warned that Akungba could regress to a time when it was deemed unsafe and unstable for higher education.
To improve student welfare, the alumni urged Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to prioritize on-campus housing, including the completion of abandoned hostels and the construction of new ones.
They argued that on-campus accommodation would offer better security and reduce students’ exposure to community-based threats.
“This is not just about infrastructure it’s about protecting lives,” the group stated.
