Adatan–Car Wash Road collapse draws sharp criticism from AAC, which accuses Ogun govt of neglect and calls for urgent rehabilitation and public accountability

Adatan–Car Wash Road Collapse has become a flashpoint of growing anger in Abeokuta, with the African Action Congress (AAC) blasting the Ogun State Government for what it calls gross negligence and administrative failure.

In a scathing statement released on Saturday, AAC Ogun Chairman Alhaji Afolabi Adesina condemned the deteriorating state of the Adatan–Car Wash corridor—once a vital artery in the state capital, now labeled a “death trap.”

“What should be a symbol of development is now a national embarrassment,” Adesina said, adding that the Adatan–Car Wash Road collapse is “a betrayal of public trust.”

He accused Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration of focusing more on photo ops and selective projects in Iperu and Sagamu while the state capital languishes. “Is Abeokuta being punished for voting in hope?” he asked.

The road, which connects key residential and commercial zones, has become nearly impassable. Residents report massive potholes, collapsed culverts, and frequent flooding especially during the rainy season.

Local traders and commuters say the economic impact is growing. “We’ve cried out, but nothing has changed,” lamented food vendor Janet Adebayo. “The governor came, the cameras came, and then… silence.”

Adesina’s statement warned that continued neglect could signal deeper political marginalization and institutional indifference. “This is more than a road it’s a lifeline,” he said.

AAC is demanding a public inspection, a clear rehabilitation timeline, and genuine community engagement. They’re urging civil society, traditional rulers, and student unions to join in pressing for change.

As frustration mounts, the Adatan–Car Wash Road collapse now represents more than poor infrastructure it’s become a symbol of broken promises and a test of leadership accountability.
