Ogun APC suspension controversy exposes a fierce internal power struggle as Governor Abiodun faces backlash over loyalty battles and party control.

The Ogun APC suspension controversy has sharply divided the party as a hastily issued and equally hasty walk-back of a suspension order reveals deep internal power plays.

State executives; from the Chairman and Senatorial Chairman down to Ward leaders, were reportedly blindsided by the suspension announcement, first surfacing on Facebook. No disciplinary committee was involved, and none of the leadership were consulted.

One senior party figure said with surprise, “We all woke up to read the news on Facebook like everyone else. We refused to comply since no proper process led to this.”

Investigations point to the State Secretary to the Government (SSG), Tokunbo Talabi, as the architect behind the saga. He reportedly created an unofficial office of the Director of Publicity to issue the suspension directive, without letterhead, investigation, or documented proof.

Mr. Femi Nuberu, who signed off the social media posts, avoided formal channels, opting for Facebook and a few WhatsApp groups to reduce traceability in case of a challenge.

Amid unexpected backlash and internal resistance, the suspension move was abruptly reversed. Sources say the SSG was “called to order,” with advisers noting the party could ill afford simultaneous conflict fronts, particularly against Senator Amosun.

Whispers abound that Governor Dapo Abiodun is using the controversy strategically—sending a subtle but chilling message: align or face consequences.

It is suspected that billions of tax payers fund may have been illegally committed by Gov Dapo Abiodun led Ogun State Govt, into “Project Fraustrate OGD-PFO” since about 4 weeks before, during and after the last Bye Election on Remo Federal Constituency on Saturday.

Political insiders suggest Abiodun aims to assert total control over party structures ahead of the next congress.

Reports indicate he wants uncompromised loyalty, particularly from Exco members, and is sidelining those tied to rival gubernatorial hopefuls like Senator Yayi.

“He won’t share loyalty,” a close aide is quoted saying. “If Yayi wants the ticket, he’ll have to come and beg from Abiodun.”
